March 13, 2006 - "in excess" of 20 of the IHS system's 34 urban clinics could close if budget cuts proposed by President Bush are enacted
WASHINGTON -- The director of the government's Indian Health Service told a House subcommittee Wednesday that "in excess" of 20 of the system's 34 urban clinics could close if budget cuts proposed by President Bush are enacted.
Although the White House says other government programs can absorb the patient load if funding for Urban Indian Service is eliminated, Indian Health Services Director Charles Grim said it is impossible to make hard predictions.
