July 27, 2009 - R. Dale Walker, MD named Physician of the Year!

The Association of American Indian Physicians has named our own Dr. Dale Walker (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) as the 2009 Indian Physician of the Year!

Dr. Gerald Hill, AAIP Board of Director's President presented the award to Walker on July 22, 2009, during the organization's 38th Annual Meeting and National Health Conference in Alexandria, Virginia.

The AAIP honor is for Distinguished Service and commitment to improving the quality of health care for Native Americans and Alaska Natives. This will be Dr. Walker's second award from AAIP for Indian Physician of the Year. He received the first honor on August 10, 1989. Walker is the first and currently one of two American Indian psychiatrists in the nation certified in addictions. He has more than 30 years experience in the addictions field.
