August 5, 2010 - Alaska Native psychiatrist investigating drum-assisted recovery therapy

Dr. Daniel Dickerson, an Alaska Native psychiatrist at UCLA's Integrative Substance Abuse Program, has applied for a federal grant to fine-tune what he calls "drum-assisted recovery therapy" and to run a pilot program on its efficacy.

Dr. Dickerson, a member of the American Indian/Alaska Native Mentorship Program for Substance Abuse Research at the One Sky Center, presented on his research at the recent Indian Health Service conference in Sacramento.
