The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race contender and former Yukon Quest champion is soft-spoken and shy around strangers. However, Brooks, 36, has been speaking out publicly lately about depression and suicide prevention in a series of television advertisements produced by the Alaska Mental Health Trust.
