The One Sky Center is the first national resource center dedicated to improving the prevention and treatment of substance abuse and mental health services among American Indian/Alaska Native people. Senator Smith and his DC/OR staff had the opportunity to hear and ask Dr. Walker about One Sky Center's activites, initiatives in the areas of suicide prevention and combating methamphetamine in Indian Country, and recommendations to assist the One Sky Center in its ongoing work in these areas.
A partner of the One Sky Center,the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board, a regional American Indian/Alaska Native tribal health organization and regional tribal epidemiology center serving 43 member tribes of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, located in Portland, was also in attendance.
