Abstract

This project expanded the capacity of the 45-day women’s residential substance abuse treatment program at Guiding Star to include improved medical and physical health service and referral with focus on occurring disorders, case management , and coordination of care both internal and external, traditional healing services, structured extended family counseling services and integration of women and dependent children’s programs. All native women (both urban and tribal referrals) were eligible for the project.

Objectives
(1) Enhance and expand the service system. (2) Improve linkages with community services. (3) Implement comprehensive family model. (4) Enhance quality of services. (5) Design marketing materials. (6) Review and select accreditation body. (6) Conduct research and evaluation.

Salt River, Gila River, Fort McDowell and San Lucy of the Tohono O Odham Nation tribes

Key Components
Comprehensive treatment model for Alcohol and Drug Advisory, for women and their children, including social services and case management, relapse prevention, health education and medical services, parenting education and skill development groups for family and individual therapy, traditional healing components.

Evaluation Design
1.Interviews: Baseline, 6 and 12 months following intake.
2. Baseline: GPRA, ASI, AASE, Social SF-12, Evaluation of Self and Treatment.
3. 6 and 12 month follow-ups: AASE (Tempted and Confidence), SF-12, GPRA and ASI (eligible 1 month before and 2 months after due date). Remuneration provided.
